Who would take a broken, unfinished, overambitious, bug-filled, outdated open-world racing game with an insanely large map over an extemely polished and critically acclaimed one with a significantly smaller one? TDU2 is the game I’ve wanted Forza Horizon to be since the first one came out. I guess it depends whether you’re more interested in the
open-world
or
racing
aspects of it; You can literally (and I do mean literally) drive around for hours in TDU and not see the same road twice, and to me, that makes the game infinitely more playable. I’ve had Horizon 1 and 2, and gotten bored of both in less than a week strictly because the maps have been so small. I’ve heard people say that 3 is twice the size of 2, and that may be so, but that’s still only a fraction of
one
of the islands in TDU.
(For reference, Honolulu is the city on the southern coast of the bottom left map, with the Ferrari logo on it. It’s about 2-3 times the size of Surfer’s Paradise in Horizon 3.)

It was basically dead on arrival; It was way too ambitious of a game for a failing studio. It really is too bad, if Turn 10 made the exact same game it would be an all-time great.

TDU2 needed more cars and better physics and it would be amazing. I’ve always said TDU2 with Forza 4 physics, car selection, and modifications would be amazing.

Who would take a broken, unfinished...
This is Oppo, after all. Most of us would apparently take something broken and unfinished over [other thing normal people want].

I really liked TDU2 but the physics were a bit wonky. That and some races were very unforgiving. And some of the songs on the radio were just flat out weird. But I loved actually having car dealers and buying houses. When everything was going right it was absolutely fantastic.

Nope. I still maintain TDU2 is the best game ever made and FH3 hasn’t changed my opinion. It’s miles better than previous games, but it’s not quite there yet.
Fuck I miss TDU2.

TDU and TDU 2 are all time favorites of mine. Them being backwards compatible can’t happen soon enough.

The team’s next effort: The Crew, after being bought and funded by Ubisoft.
And its currently free on Uplay until Oct 11th if my memory serves me right.

I’d put it below GTA4 and GT4/5, but it’s up there for me. Part of me thinks that its flaws somehow contribute to the mystique of the game, like if you were able to put up with them you’d be rewarded with an incredible game.

That’s exactly what I thought Horizon was going to be, but it’s never really gotten there.

I can’t go back to TDU 2 because of the wonky physics. You can lose traction but you can’t drift. Something isn’t right about it.

Best ever made? Don’t you think the physics were rubbish?

Is it worth $20? I’m looking at it on the steam store right now, drooling.

Sure, I don’t think anyone is arguing that. It’s the people I met and experiences I had playing that make it the best. Just cruising around and randomly coming across another player, they honk, you honk back, one of you turns around to follow the other and next thing you know you’ve spent the last three hours cruising around the map with someone you’ve never met before. It literally happened dozens of times to me and I’ve never experienced anything like it in any other game (except for one time playing The Crew’s beta). And the map was so huge you never get tired of it. Plus you could exploit the bugginess of the game to get into unintended places. Jumping a crest and bouncing off a boulder to get into the airport and then hosting drag races down the runways with you friends, etc.
I guess Burnout 3 would be what I consider the best game ever based on how the game actually plays.

The crew is free on uplay untill sometime in october, incase you want a driving game with the most cliche story you can find and some serious buggyness. The map is based on the US however, so pretty cool...

That’s pretty awesome, I think I played that game entirely offline so I have no idea.

God I love TDU2. I’ve invested hours in that game and I’m still nowhere near completing it. I remember thinking the races were long and that the final race on Ibiza wouldn’t be too bad wait what 47 minutes?! And if you play on a keyboard, the wonky physics aren’t too bad.

My personal favorite bug was how, when driving the Caterham, you would land a jump and then clip into the road, making you slow down and lose control. And it wasn’t random, it happened every single time! Eventually they fixed it, but since it was TDU and it couldn’t be perfect, they simultaneously changed the engine sound to the noise a vacuum cleaner makes when you lift it off the ground.
Still my most driven car though; I had 2000+miles on it

I miss TDU 1 more than TDU 2. I got TDU 1 back when it first came out, and like 90% of all of my current Xbox friends are people I raced in the first TDU. Sadly, by the time I got TDU 2, the roads were already dead.
Long freaking live TDU, that game has my heart forever...it’s my favourite racing game of all time. It has charm that Forza Horizon doesn’t have, and part of it is because the lack of polish. :D

I would say yes only if you’re prepared to mod it because there was actually a large PC mod community for the game that released unofficial patches and extra cars. Otherwise, I’d wait for a sale or something.

I didn’t get it, but I got another game called RaceRoom that’s amazing. It has the best controller feedback of anything ever, I can’t even describe it in a way that does it justice. It’s free to download, but it’s basically a demo version. Most of everything is DLC but seems reasonably priced.
I’d make a post about it, but I don’t have authorship :(

Funny. As I was playing horizon 3 tonight I was hoping for a new TDU
The fact that in tdu you could buy a car brand new and option it out with trim and different interiors. Convertibles had tops you could raise and lower. Turn signals worked! House customization. Character customization.
I wish horizon had some of those elements. It would make a great game even better.
I loved TDU and TDU2. I just wish the driving was a bit better
